Almeda Elementary School has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. 

Here are some key historical facts:

  • 1893: The Almeda School District is established, with students initially learning in a barn.
  • 1894: A one-room white school building is built.
  • 1901: The first permanent school opens, named after Almeda King.
  • 1905: The school has one teacher and 31 students.
  • 1936: Almeda joins HISD.
  • 1981: A new campus opens.
  • 2011: The current 86,000-square-foot campus opens, designed to replace the 1981 building with improved features like a larger library and new technology.
  • 2012: Portions of the school's zone are rezoned to Reagan K-8.
